
Mark R. Western
Born in Williston, North Dakota.
Mr. Western has tried multiple civil bench and jury trials to successful verdict for his clients, representing both plaintiffs and defendants. Western is also experienced in administrative proceedings, arbitrations, and other proceedings in state, federal, and bankruptcy courts. Mr. Western has also successfully argued before the North Dakota Supreme Court.
Among other things, Western is experienced in civil litigation related to motor vehicle accidents, real and personal property disputes, oil and gas related claims, premises liability claims, insurance related litigation, and complex commercial litigation.
A native of Stanley, N.D., Mr. Western joined the Nilles Law Firm in 2007. He received a J.D., with distinction, from the University of North Dakota. While in law school, he participated on a Moot Court Championship team and served as Articles Editor of the North Dakota Law Review. Mr. Western is a member of the Order of the Barristers and the Order of the Coif.
Mr. Western is admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the District of North Dakota; the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Districts of North Dakota and Minnesota, and the state courts of North Dakota and Minnesota. His practice is focused on civil litigation, bankruptcy law, and insurance law. Mr. Western is also a Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of North Dakota for Workforce Safety and Insurance.
In addition, Mr. Western’s practice includes working with clients and local and county units of governments in western North Dakota on solutions to oil related issues. Mr. Western has represented oil related industries to county boards of planning and zoning and county commissions in zoning related matters with successful outcomes.
Western is the President of the downtown Fargo Lions Club and is a past president of the F/M Claims Association.
