Shanon earned a Bachelor of Science degree with honors from North Dakota State University in May 1992.  She devoted the next few years to motherhood before beginning law school. In December 1998, Shanon graduated from the University of North Dakota School of Law, receiving a juris doctor with distinction. While in law school, she was a research assistant with Central Legal Research, was named to the Order of Coif.  Shanon began her legal career serving as a Law Clerk to Chief Judge Rodney S. Webb in the United States District Court for the District of North Dakota.  She joined the Nilles Law firm in August 2001.

Shanon is a Shareholder practicing in the Insurance Law and Litigation departments of the Nilles Law firm. She focuses in the areas of personal injury and property defense, insurance coverage, construction law and administrative/agency practice. Shanon is one of several attorneys in the  firm that serve as a Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of North Dakota handling litigated workers compensation claims on behalf of North Dakota Workforce Safety and Insurance.  
Shanon is a member of the Cass County Bar Association, State Bar Association of North Dakota, Minnesota State Bar Association, American Bar Association, and the Ronald N. Davies Inns of Court. She is licensed in North Dakota state and federal courts, the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals, and Minnesota state courts.  She is a member of the Fargo Kiwanis Club and Atonement Lutheran Church, where she serves as a Confirmation Leader.  Shanon lives in Fargo with her husband and children.
